Parents fear ‘bad parent’ label

Nearly seven out of 10 people with young children say the worst thing they could be called is a bad parent, a survey has found.

More than a third of people with children under five felt they were under pressure to be a perfect parent, according to a poll of 1,016 people commissioned by the family support charity Home-Start UK.

Fathers were more worried about being criticised by their partners when it came to parenting, while mothers most feared the judgment of professionals.

Women were generally more concerned about being labelled a bad parent then men. Not giving your child emotional support was the most common reason given for considering someone a bad parent.
