Stamps celebrate designer genius

Designer William Morris famously said, “Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.”

And Royal Mail yesterday released a set of stamps to celebrate the creative genius of the Victorian arts and crafts designers which he co-founded, Morris & Co being used as wallpaper designs. The set of six stamps will highlight some of the company’s most beautiful hand-crafted designs, which were fashioned in wood, fabric, wallpaper, tiles and stained glass. The original company of Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Company was founded 150 years ago in 1861, and quickly established a reputation for fashionable interior design among other things.
