Three women hurt in hair salon shooting

A MAN was on the run last night after three women were injured in a shooting at a hairdressing salon, police said.

Gwent Police said they were still looking for the man involved in the incident at the salon, named locally as Carol Ann’s Hair Stylist, in Newport, South Wales, yesterday afternoon.

One woman was shot in the knee after a man armed with a gun went into the shop at about 2.20pm, police said.

Another woman suffered an injury to the neck and a third was injured in the arm, but police would not confirm whether they had been shot. None of the injuries was said to be life-threatening.

A spokeswoman said: “A male had entered the premises with a firearm. Officers have recovered a firearm from the premises.”

Kataru Reddy, who works at the Shell petrol station opposite the salon, said: “At around 2.30pm a man went into the shop. Soon after that I heard two gunshots and after that I heard shouting.”

Mr Reddy said it took 10 minutes for the police to arrive in two vans and two cars. He said there were five police marksmen in the team but they had since left.
