PERSISTENT rain has brought flooding to parts of Leeds city centre as drains struggle to cope with the deluge.

The area around Wellington Street was worst affected, with traffic queuing traffic on the aptly-named Canal Street A647 at the Armley Gyratory.

There was also congestion on the M621 to unction 2, the A643 at Elland Road, on the A58(M) Inner Ring Road to the A58 at Clay Pit Lane, and on the A65 Kirkstall Road to the Cavendish Street junction.

Northern Street was closed to traffic for an hour in the afternoon but has since reopened.

However, traffic remained slow on many parts of the inner ring road as the afternoon rush hour began.
