Urban park scoops award

THE council planning team behind Bradford’s City Park has won a top award from the Royal Town Planning Institute.

The six-acre public space, developed by Bradford Council, won the RTPI Yorkshire Planning Excellence Award for 2013 and beat competition from developers and local authorities from across the region.

RTPI Yorkshire’s chairman Stan Driver said: “The judging panel were particularly impressed by its planning content, its originality and its impact on the city.”

Bradford Council’s executive member for planning and transport Val Slater said: “I’m delighted the quality of the professional work of our town planners has been recognised.”

Runner-up was the conversion of West Offices to create York Council’s new headquarters.
