Van driver critically ill after crash near Harrogate

A MAN was seriously injured when the van he was driving was involved in collision with a car near Harrogate.

The 39-year-old man from the Harrogate area is in a critical condition at Leeds General Infirmary following the accident on the A658 at around 5.30pm yesterday.

The white Vauxhall van he was driving collided with a silver Ford Focus between the two junctions for North Rigton.

The driver of the Ford Focus, a 60-year-old woman from the Harrogate area, was left shocked but unhurt.

The van, which had ‘Future Builds’ written on the side, was travelling towards Huby and the car was travelling in the opposite direction towards Harrogate when the accident happened.

North Yorkshire Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw either vehicle before the incident, to come forward with information.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “It has been reported that the van may have overtaken a number of other vehicles prior to the collision and officers would like to speak to anyone who remembers being passed by it.”
