Jane Tomlinson charity Run for All is arranging the 2015 half marathon after the former organisers stood down following chaos triggered by the shortage of bottled water at this year’s event.

Mr Vaughan, who grew up in Sheffield, said: “I think the route is very special because I remember the Olympic torch and everyone came out to see and support it, its a similar kind of route. There’s plenty of opportunity for people if you’re not running, and your kids aren’t taking part, to get on the streets and support everyone who is taking part.

“I think you’ll see plenty of Sheffield if you can get to the top of Ringinglow Road because you can see all across the city and I think that is what Sheffield is all about.

“I think the last route was very flat and everybody in Sheffield would be disappointed if they didn’t get to run up at least two or three hills.”

The run on April 12 will start on Arundel Gate, with runners going up Ecclesall Road before taking a right turn to Ringinglow and to the Norfolk Arms pub. There it turns left to offer views of Sheffield and the Peak District, downhill to the outskirts of Dore, back to Ecclesall Road and then to a grand finish at the town hall.

For elite runners there will also be a ‘King of the Hill’ climb.
