Members of the public can have the chance to take in the wonders of the universe through the telescope themselves later this week.

As part of the Dark Sky Festival, there is a special viewing opportunity at the Lime Tree site this Wednesday.

For those who can’t make it, the observatory will be running monthly star events throughout the year.

More than 100 events are being held across 21 different locations within the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales national parks, with the festival running from February 18 and 26.

Among the events this year are a space-themed cinema evening and astro photography sessions.
