United striker Ross McCormack said: “I’m really proud to help launch this year’s Leeds 10K.

“Jane Tomlinson was a genuinely remarkable woman and I hope everyone follows in her incredible footsteps and gets out there and runs up a storm to help some great charities.”

Leeds Rhinos’ Ian Kirke added: “The Leeds 10K is a brilliant event and always hugely popular. It’s a great testament to Jane’s legacy.”

This 7th annual Asda Foundation Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All Leeds 10K takes place on Sunday, July 14, starting and finishing on the Headrow.

Proceeds from entry fees go to the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, while participants will also be encouraged to raise funds for partner charities – Martin House Children’s Hospice in Boston Spa, Yorkshire Cancer Research, Macmillan Cancer Support, Leeds Children’s Hospital and The Haven breast cancer support centre.

Run For All event director Sara Birkinshaw said: “The Jane Tomlinson Leeds 10K was the first event we ever launched seven years ago and it is still as popular today.

“Leeds looks incredible on 10K day – the whole city becomes a sea of colour as thousands upon thousands of runners take their marks. The 10K is great for the city and it gives a huge boost to our partner charities.”

Taking part will be Leeds City Council executive member for leisure and skills, Coun Adam Ogilvie.
