Video: Tim Henman’s tennis masterclass in Leeds

THIS summer’s Wimbledon competition may be a fading memory, but tennis ace Tim Henman was in Pudsey today to serve up tips about the sport.

A partnership between the soft drinks supplier Robinsons and Asda gave shoppers, colleagues and tennis fans the chance to witness a performance by the former British number one.

He gave a tennis masterclass to a number of pre-selected lucky winners on a specially created tennis court, in front of the Asda Pudsey store. And, of course, it wouldn’t be tennis if Robinsons wasn’t on hand.

The company, which has a long association with Wimbledon dating back 70 years, gave out free tennis balls to the first 150 shoppers and after the class there was the opportunity to get them signed by Mr Henman. He also answered questions from the public and gave tips on playing the game.

Mr Henman retired after helping Great Britain defeat Croatia in a Davis Cup match in September 2007. He was given a misnomer of a nickname “Tiger Tim” when he possessed the least tigerish personality of any of his fellow players. Indeed, one of the few times he gave any indication of a darker side occurred in 1995 at Wimbledon when he thrashed a ball in a fit of pique, striking ball girl Caroline Hall on the head.
