VIDEO: UPDATED - Investigation into fatal Barnsley house blaze

A MAN was found dead following a blaze at a house in Barnsley.

Fire crews were called to deal with a blaze at a semi-detached house on Darley Avenue in the Athersley area of Barnsley just before 2am today. (Saturday November 7)

The first floor of the house was well alight and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property to search for casualties.

A man, believed to be aged in his sixties, was found to have died.

Formal identification of the body has not yet taken place and police and fire investigators have launched an investigation into the cause of the blaze.

No one else is thought to have been inside the property at the time of the incident.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service, said: “At this time, there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”

Fire crews from Barnsley, Tankersley and Cudworth fire stations attended the incident.
