A LEEDS restaurant owner has attempted to break the world plate smashing record.

George Psarias, owner of The Olive Tree in Rodley, was challenged to the plate smashing contest by Jet2 local cabin crew Laura Magee and Jacob Roberts.

It was organised to celebrate Leeds-based airline Jet2.com launching two new routes for 2014.

The airline will fly to the Greek island of Kos and the Catalan city of Reus.

Steve Heapy, chief executive officer of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “We’ve certainly had a smashing time celebrating the launch of these two new destinations. Greece and Spain continue to be very popular with our Yorkshire customers.”
