Volunteers expected to run museum

SENIOR councillors are to discuss the future of a Yorkshire museum with a view to it being run by volunteers from 2015.

Bradford Council wants to make budget cuts and identified Ilkley’s Manor House Art Gallery and Museum for a possible transfer to a community group.

A report to executive committee on June 24 says it could be being managed by volunteers from April 1 next year. In the meantime, it will open with revised hours with support from Bradford Council and Ilkley Parish Council, giving community groups time to develop plans.

Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe said: “I’m grateful for the support of Ilkley Parish Council and the Museum Friends Group in keeping the Museum open while a more permanent community-led solution is found.”

Opening times are 11am to 5pm, Wednesday to Saturday, and 1pm to 4pm on Sundays.
