Warning issued over dog fouling

BRADFORD Council's neighbourhood wardens are urging dog owners to clean up after their pets.

They are warning people that they could find themselves being collared by the law if they commit the offence of allowing a dog to foul on any footpath, park, play area or grass verge.

Offenders may be issued with a fixed penalty notice of 50 or appear before magistrates to face a fine of up to 1,000.

Neighbourhood wardens now have the authority to issue fixed penalty notices for dog fouling and littering.

They have been chatting to dog owners in local parks, handing out information leaflets and raising awareness about the health risks associated with dog fouling.

Wardens have also been working in local schools where pupils have helped to raise awareness of dog fouling and littering by designing posters.

Information has also been given out at special neighbourhood forums in a continued drive to get public support.

Coun Ghazanfer Khaliq, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Environment and Sustainability, said: "It is totally unacceptable not to clear up after your dog."
