Winter finally arrived as snow began to fall in Leeds

After heavy snowfall in North Yorkshire yesterday, forecasters warned that Leeds could experience similar weather.

The snow began just before 9am in north Leeds areas such as Alwoodley and Cookridge and there are reports of snow in areas including Beeston too. What's the weather like where you are?

By 9.15am, the snow was coming down hard in the city centre.

Highways England officers were out salting and snow ploughing the M62 in the early hours of this morning.

West Yorkshire Police urged drivers to be cautious on the roads due to the icy conditions.

The Met Office said that heavy snow is expected until around 11am when it turns to heavy rain.

The rain is set to last all day.

Today: A cold and cloudy day. Rain and snow, mainly on hills, spreading westwards through the morning. Rain turning showery into the afternoon with low cloud becoming more extensive as winds ease. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Tonight: Cloudy with spells of rain and hill snow throughout the night. Turning drier but breezier in the east through the early hours. Ice or frost possible where winds stay light. Minimum temperature -2 °C.

Saturday: Mainly bright, but with scattered showers of rain and isolated hill snow through much of the day, winds easing. Drier overnight with some icy patches likely. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Sunday, overnight frost and fog slowly clearing, then mainly dry and bright. Early fog Monday, then bright but showery, rain possible in east later. Rain spreading westwards on Tuesday. Cold.
