Storm Ashley: Residents warned to 'move possessions' with flood warnings in place in Yorkshire

Flood warnings are in place across Yorkshire on Monday morning as Storm Ashley threatens to cause significant disruption in the region.

More than 100 flood warnings remained in place across the UK on Monday after Storm Ashley made its presence felt.

A yellow weather alert for wind, issued by the Met Office, was in place until 9am on Monday morning across the north and east of Scotland and northeast.

The notice warned travellers to brace for potential power cuts and longer journey times.

In Yorkshire, red flood warnings are in place in Scarborough.

There are further yellow warnings near Goole and in Bridlington.

A warning is also in place at North Lincolnshire’s Alkborough Flats.

The warning in Scarborough centres on ‘North Sea at Scarborough - Foreshore Road’.

The warning states: "Stay away from beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads in Scarborough as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous.”

At Alkborough flats, residents were told to move possessions with flooding expected at high tide.

The warning reads: “The Keadby river gauge is forecast to overtop the lower spillway and result in flooding.

“We are closely monitoring the situation.

“Please move possessions and valuables off the ground or to safety and turn off gas, electricity and water.”

NOTE 9.15AM:

An update to the North Sea warning: “This warning is no longer in force as the tides have now passed and no further flooding is expected. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and re-issue the warning if necessary.”
