It might be a sunny day today, but Yorkshire still managed to be the coldest place in the UK this morning

The weather has lurched from warm sunny days to freezing nights and one local weather enthusiast has shared the mercury readings from parts of the county after another bitterly cold night.

The account shared the news that parts of Yorkshire slipped to almost MINUS 8C on Thursday morning.

Ravenseat in North Yorkshire recorded a temperature of -7.8C, while Keld suffered through -7.3C.

It makes the two weather stations the two coldest places in the UK overnight.

The person behind the @northyorkswx account said: "Less than 6 weeks to the start of the meteorological summer and we are still seeing temperatures that have been rare in the depths of recent winters.

"Coldest places in the UK this morning. Many of my stations in there, #NorthYorkshire well and truly the cold spot."

It comes just days after temperatures as low as -6C were felt in parts of the county.

The freezing cold comes despite weather forecasts of warm sunshine today and into the weekend.

The latest Met Office weather forecast for Yorkshire:

Today:

A fine and dry day in prospect with long sunny spells. After a cold start temperatures will recover to give a pleasantly warm feeling afternoon, along with mainly light winds. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Tonight:

Long clear spells overnight, and with generally light winds another chilly night with a widespread ground frost, and a slight air frost in places. Minimum temperature -1 °C.

Friday:

Another fine, dry day with long sunny spells. Feeling warm with afternoon temperatures slightly higher than on Thursday. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Occasionally cloudier over the weekend, especially near the coast, but still with sunny spells. Becoming cooler by day, and still chilly overnight. Some rain or showers possible later Monday.
