Website aid for people living in pain

A NEW website has been launched offering support for people in Kirklees who live with persistent pain.

With an estimated one in three living with pain the website –www.kirkleespersistentpain.com – has been designed to help people manage their pain and make the best use of local services.

The one-stop online resource also includes information from people who successfully manage their pain.

Dr Frances Cole, clinical lead for self-care at Kirklees Council, said: “We know that persistent pain is more common than previously thought.”

Dr Cole added: “In Kirklees one in three adults say that they live with a regular painful problem and we have developed the website to help them and their carers learn more about pain and ways to manage it. It will also provide the most up to date information for health professionals about the latest knowledge, skills and treatments available.”

The website is a joint venture involving the council’s self-care team, health trainers, Kirklees Active Leisure, Improving Access to Psychological Therapies, practice managers, nurses and pain clinicians.
