Woman who tried to save dog from canal is rescued by firefighters

FIREFIGHTERS pulled a woman out of a canal in Dewsbury after she got into difficulties while trying to rescue her dog.

The woman was unable to get out of the canal at Rectory Park on Church Lane in the Thornhill area of Dewsbury.

Fire crews from Wakefield, Rothwell, Leeds and Dewsbury were called to deal with the incident, which happened just before 4pm yesterday.

Both the woman and the dog were rescued by firefighters.
