Work to restart on cycle route

Work is to restart on a key cycle route linking the Aire Valley and Bradford city centre.

The Canal Road Greenway is a traffic free route for walkers and cyclists between Shipley and Arnold Lavers on Canal Road, Bradford.

Work is due to start next week on building a section which will run through an old allotment site between Poplar Road and Gaisby Lane, forming part of the National Cycle Route 66.

The £260,000 scheme will take about ten weeks to complete. Construction started in 2013 but was delayed to carry out studies of contaminated ground. The original Greenway plans have been amended to avoid any affected areas.

Councillor Val Slater, Bradford Council’s executive member for housing, planning and transport, said: “It should encourage far more people to use this path once it’s completed.”
