Boys die and parents hurt in gun attack

Three boys were killed and their parents were injured in an attack in Thailand’s insurgency-plagued south.

Police Major General Pattanawut Angkanawin said gunmen opened fire at the family’s home in Narathiwat province.

He said the three children, aged six, nine and 11, were killed immediately.

Maj Gen Pattanawut said the family had returned from a mosque and was about to enter their house when gunmen opened fire from the roadside.

Police were investigating if the deadly assault was carried out by Muslim insurgents, who have targeted Muslims viewed as sympathetic to the authorities.
