‘have fun’

US politician Chris Christie said he had “a lot of fun” during a lunch meeting with George Osborne in Downing Street.

The New Jersey Governor, tipped as a potential Republican presidential candidate, posed for pictures with the Chancellor outside Number 11 before heading inside for a working lunch.

Mr Christie is on a trade mission to the UK, but his trip has been seen as an attempt to boost his foreign policy credentials ahead of a possible run for the White House in 2016.

He was accompanied by his wife Mary Pat for the lunch with the Chancellor.

As he left he told reporters: “We had a lot of fun.”

On Monday evening, Governor Christie met David Cameron for private talks at 10 Downing Street.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “From time to time, the Prime Minister meets senior US political figures. Governor Christie is in London, the Prime Minister is meeting him.”

The spokesman confirmed that Mr Cameron hosted Jeb Bush – also tipped as a possible Republican candidate for the presidency – at Number 10 in November last year.
