Shooting spree gunman first targeted family

Investigators trying to determine why a gunman planned a shooting spree that killed five people were focusing on a deadly act of domestic violence in which he killed his father and brother.

Friday’s violence in the streets of Santa Monica, California, lasted just minutes until the heavily armed man, identified by media outlets as John Zawahri, was shot dead by police at a college library where he had fired 70 rounds, although amazingly no one was injured there.

Police Chief Jacqueline Sea-
brooks said: “Any time someone puts on a vest, of some sort, comes out with a bag full of loaded magazines, has an extra receiver, has a handgun and has a semi-automatic rifle, carjacks folks, goes to a college, kills more people and has to be neutralised at the hands of the police, I would say that that’s premeditated.”
