Tributes to Briton ‘in killing of US cop’

Tributes have been paid to a British teenager who died after she and her American boyfriend were allegedly involved in the fatal shooting of US police officer.

According to US reports Alex Hollinghurst, 17, and Brandon Goode, 18, are believed to have killed themselves after the officer was murdered in Orlando, Florida.

Alex is understood to have been born in the UK and lived in the North West of England before moving to America around six years ago.

Andrew Cartledge, the headmaster of her old primary school St Andrew’s Church of England Junior School, in Hadfield village near Glossop, Derbyshire said: “Alex Hollinghurst was a pupil at St Andrew’s until she was 11 years old.

“She was a talented pupil who it was a pleasure to have in school.

“Alex was sociable with many friends and an outgoing personality.

“Our thoughts are with her family at this tragic time.”

Grace Etchells, who was one of Alex’s former classmates at St Andrew’s, also paid tribute to her friend.

She said: “I knew Alex from primary school, up until about six years ago.

“That is when Alex, Hannah (her younger sister) and her mum and dad left for the USA.

“We were classmates for about three years. She was a great girl – she had zero flaws.”

The shootings took place in the early hours of Saturday in the wealthy residential Orlando suburb of Windermere.

US officials said Officer Robert German was killed after stopping Alex and Goode on foot and calling for backup.
