York murder: Grieving family speak about grandfather who was "taken too soon"

Shaun Skelton, 53, was found dead inside a flat in Holgate Road during the early hours of Sunday.

In a statement released by North Yorkshire Police today, his family said: "Shaun was a father, son, brother, uncle and granddad who has been taken from us too soon.

"He was a quiet man with a love of pet birds who kept himself to himself and was an avid Leeds United supporter. He will be sadly missed by us all.”

A man from York appeared in court for the first time earlier this week after being charged with Mr Skelton's murder.

Daniel Thomas Reed, 19, of Strensall Road, has been remanded into custody until a pre-trial hearing at Leeds Crown Court next month.
