Young patients unveil new scanner

A NEW £500,000 CT scanner will be officially unveiled at Sheffield Children's Hospital tomorrow, following a six-month appeal to fund the state-of-the-art equipment.

Young patients from the hospital, Grace Sellers and George Marriott, will perform the opening honours, alongside Toby Foster, a presenter on Radio Sheffield which supported fundraising.

Grace, six, from Balby, Doncaster, and George, 11, from, Wingerworth, Chesterfield, were the voices of the appeal on the BBC and each

held their own fundraising events.

Grace, who is currently in remission from kidney cancer, helped to organise a sponsored head shave and George, who is under the care of the hospital for a benign brain tumour, held a cake bake sale.

Between them they raised 18,000.

The 3D images produced by the new scanner provide more

information for doctors to aid potentially life-saving diagnosis.
