Council seeks compulsory purchase of Bradford home to bring it back into use

Bradford Council has taken formal steps to compulsorily purchase a residential property in a bid to bring it back into use as housing.

City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council has made a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) relating to a property on Horton Park Avenue as part of efforts to return the building to use as a housing resource.

The order, titled The City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council (194 Horton Park Avenue, Bradford, West Yorkshire BD5 0NL) Compulsory Purchase Order 2025, has been made under Part II, Section 17 of the Housing Act 1985.

The council is preparing to submit the order to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government for confirmation.

If approved, the order would allow the council to compulsorily purchase the property at 194 Horton Park Avenue in order to bring it back into residential use.

A copy of the order and the accompanying map can be viewed on the council’s website, or inspected by appointment at City Hall, Bradford.

Anyone wishing to object to the compulsory purchase must do so in writing by February 6, 2026. Objections should be sent to the Planning Casework Unit at the Department for Housing, Communities and Local Government, either by post or by email, and must include the title of the order, the grounds of objection, and details of the objector’s interest in the land.

The notice explains that personal data submitted as part of an objection will be shared with the council so the objection can be considered. Where a public inquiry is held, anonymised representations may be given less weight by the appointed inspector.

The notice was dated January 12, 2026, and issued by Jason Field, Director of Legal and Governance, on behalf of City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council.
