Stamford Bridge: Roadworks planned around historic Yorkshire village
Drivers in parts of the East Riding of Yorkshire are being advised of temporary road closures in Bishop Wilton and Low Catton during January 2026 to allow essential utility works to be carried out.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council has confirmed that part of Park Lane in Bishop Wilton will be closed to through traffic from January 13, 2026, until January 16, 2026.
The closure will affect the section of Park Lane between its junction with Park Lane Close and the connecting road between Park Lane and Main Street.
The restriction is required to enable the installation of a new water supply connection and to ensure public safety while works are underway. The council expects the work to be completed within four days.
As Park Lane is a no-through road, no alternative diversion route will be available. However, access will be maintained for residents, emergency vehicles and pedestrians throughout the closure. The order will remain in force for up to 18 months if required, although it will be lifted as soon as the works are completed.
Meanwhile, a second temporary closure is planned in Low Catton, affecting parts of Main Street and Broad Lane.
The council intends to close the road from its junction with Nursery Court, southbound to a property known as The Lintel, from 8am on January 19, 2026, until 5pm on January 23, 2026.

The closure is needed to allow the installation of ducting and chambers for the new BDUK fibre network on behalf of Quickline Communications. While the order is valid for up to 18 months, the works are expected to be completed within five days.
During the Low Catton closure, traffic will be diverted via Broad Lane, Lofthouse Lane, Main Street, Church Lane and Main Street. Diversion routes will be clearly signed at the time of the works.
As with the Bishop Wilton closure, the road will be closed to through traffic only, with access maintained for residents, emergency services and pedestrians.
Residents seeking further information about either closure can contact East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Highways Customer Care team on 01482 393939, quoting reference PE.
