Tesco is encouraging customers to shop alone to avoid queues

Supermarket chain Tesco has urged customers to shop alone, where possible, in order to reduce queues.

Like many other stores, the supermarket has implemented the government’s coronavirus guidance in order to keep customers safe.

Tesco currently has a ‘traffic light’ system in place to help with customer flow, alongside social distancing signs, hand sanitising stations and plastic screens at the tills. But, with fewer people allowed in the store at any one time, and more heading out to the supermarket for the Christmas shop, queues are getting longer.

‘Shop alone where possible’

In an email to Tesco Clubcard customers, CEO of Tesco, Jason Tarry, advised shoppers to head to the supermarket’s branches by themselves, reports The Sun.

"To help us manage the number of people in-store, we're strongly encouraging customers to shop alone where possible,” Mr Tarry said.

"This is in line with government guidance and will help reduce time spent queuing in-store, making it safer for all our customers and colleagues. "

The supermarket has also recently introduced purchasing limits on some essential items, including eggs, rice, toilet roll and soap. Customers are allowed to buy up to three of each item, and these measures have been implemented in order to make sure everyone has access to the products, Tesco said.
