Apply now: Could you be the next chair of Humber Freeport to deliver on the economic potential for the region

Humber Freeport has been in operation for nearly two years, with its partners attracting more than £1bn of investment and the promise of over 700 high value jobs. It is a core Government initiative driving economic development in key, strategic locations across the UK.
Its unique public-private mix of Board members and company status, limited by guarantee, has strengthened collaborative working across the Humber and, when considered alongside prospective Mayors and game-changing investments championed by the Humber Energy Board, the future of the region is looking very exciting indeed.
To strengthen its leadership and governance structure, Humber Freeport is recruiting a new chair, following the retirement of outgoing chair Simon Bird.
Simon Green, CEO of Humber Freeport, said whoever comes into the role will be joining at an exciting time for the whole region, with the mayoral elections taking place and the opportunity to work alongside them and the Humber Energy Board to develop an economic strategy for the Humber.
We are on the cusp of greatness in this region. The Freeport is a catalyst for the Humber. Whoever becomes the chair of Humber Freeport will be coming in at an exciting time to deliver on the aspirations and latent potential of the Humber.
He paid tribute to the outgoing chair and to the current acting chair Professor Neal Juster.

About the role
The successful candidate will not only take a leadership and ambassadorial role, working with Government ministers, stakeholders, partners and investors, but also ensure sound corporate governance and procedure. Remuneration is set at £40,000 per annum.
The Chair will demonstrate a strong interest in the Humber economy and its key sectors and a commitment to leading the drive for economic growth in the region. Whilst not needing to currently live or work in the Humber region, the Chair needs to understand the strategic value of the Humber region to the wider UK economy and must be seen to engage with, and be present, within the Humber's business and political community.
“They will need drive, ambition, energy and emotional intelligence to understand the context of what’s happening,” said Simon. “We want someone who understands the industrial heritage of the past and can deliver on its economic future.”
