Memorial jewellery offers the quiet comfort of carrying someone with you, not just in memory, but in something you can hold, wear and treasure every day.
The tradition dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries, but became hugely popular during the Victorian era, when mourning rings and lockets were worn in tribute, often containing a lock of hair or an inscription.
Today, Gateway Funeral Services, the region’s trusted independent family-run funeral service, brings that same sentiment into the modern age.
Gateway works with a number of partners offering fingerprint engraving, ashes jewellery and keepsakes, using sing state-of-the-art techniques.
EverWith® use a small amount of ashes or hair to carefully blend into a specially coloured resin, creating a smooth, polished, stone-like finish, with the precious contents suspended delicately within and protected by a durable outer layer to last a lifetime.
Real diamond dust can be added with the ashes to give a subtle sparkle.
The collection is extensive with more than 200 designs to choose from, including rings, pendants, bracelets, lockets, cufflinks and earrings, all handcrafted in hallmarked 925 sterling silver or 9k gold.
There is a choice of 12 resin colours, allowing each piece to reflect personal taste or the character of a loved one.
Selected EverWith® pieces can be engraved with names, handwritten messages, fingerprints, scaled own handprints, footprints and even treasured photographs — turning each keepsake into a truly one-of-a-kind tribute.
Every piece is created with utmost care and dignity, in a sterile environment. No ashes are discarded, and any unused are returned to the family.
Memorial jewellery is about creating lasting tributes that bring comfort, closeness and a sense that those we love are never truly gone, says Gateway Funeral Services’ Lucy Hitchcock.
"We are proud to be able to offer something so personal and meaningful as part of the support we provide. The jewellery is a beautiful, lasting way to keep loved ones close and can bring enormous comfort at a difficult time," she said.
Care and compassion is at the heart of Gateway Funeral Services, with branches in Birkenshaw, Batley and Wibsey, serving West Yorkshire and beyond.
