The Chester Christmas Express

Join the Chester Christmas Express on Saturday, November 30, from Scarborough, Malton, York, Leeds or Hebden Bridge to kick off the festive season with a very special day out.

Leaving Scarborough steam hauled in the morning, this train will travel through the scenic Calder Valley heading west to Chester.

Take time to explore this fine walled city, its cathedral, Roman amphitheatre or famous 14th Century medieval ‘Rows’ – first floor galleried walkways lined with small shops and cafes.Then, reboard your steam train for home, saying goodbye to our steam locomotive along the way at York from where the train continues diesel hauled to Malton and Scarborough.

The Edinburgh Christmas Market

Running on Saturdays, November 23 and December 14 and 21, the Edinburgh Christmas Market departs from York.

This memorable journey will take you across the River Tyne in Newcastle and up the stunning Northumbrian coast, crossing the Royal Border Bridge in Berwick on Tweed and steaming into Scotland.More wonderful scenery will greet you as you travel through the Scottish Borders and into Edinburgh.

With so much to see in Edinburgh it will be hard to choose.The Christmas market along Princes Street will be a great opportunity to top up on shopping.Otherwise, why not stroll up the Royal Mile to visit the hilltop castle or check out the Scottish National Gallery or the beautiful Portrait Gallery – a work of art in itself!
