The ultimate ghost trains run on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway during Halloween
That’s because the Railway that operates heritage steam and diesel trains for five miles up the Worth Valley from Keighley to Oxenhope will be running the ultimate ghost trains, ‘The Scare Train’ on Thursday, October 31st and ‘The Spooky Express’ services (Tuesday, October 29th until Thursday, October 31s)t as part of their Halloween programme.
It will be the first time the railway, one of West Yorkshire’s leading tourist attractions, has added ‘The Scare Train’ dimension to their Halloween offering.
Passengers are being offered a spine chilling train ride up into the South Pennine hills and will have to be on the look-out for a bridegroom who has lost his bride; a nurse seeking an un-willing and shiver to the sound track of a chainsaw in action.
Get “nicely spooked”
Tom Marshall, the railway’s marketing officer, explains: “We wanted to offer our family audience something new for Halloween 2024.
The children always have a great time when we stage Halloween services, and ‘The Scare Train’ will be something completely different, even for us. Going through the KWVR’s two tunnels is normally very safe, but riding ‘The Scare Train’ will of the potential to be nicely spooked.”
Passengers will also be encouraged to join in the scary fun by dressing up for the trip on the railway. Also, on offer at Oxenhope as an integral part of the whole experience will be a ‘haunted train shed’ where visitors will be greeted by ghosts, ghouls and witches.
‘The Scare Train’ will start from Oxenhope, and the railway will offer music, food and drink to passengers before they set out on their journey into the spooky unknown.
All aboard for spooky fun
Besides ‘The Scare Train’ the KWVR will be running ‘The Spooky Express’ on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of the schools’ half-term break. The Express will run during daylight hours and will include an appropriate level of ‘scare factor’ as part of the entertainment.
And before the passengers get aboard the ‘The Spooky Express’ with its specially decorated carriages, they will be able to watch a Spooky Show just to get them in the mood.
Added Tom: “Our staff and volunteers really get into the spirit of the occasion, and they like to make it a really memorable show for the children. We think it’s a great package with ghosts, ghouls and witches helping establish that all important eerie atmosphere for ‘The Spooky Express’.
