For over five decades, Hull Training and Adult Education (HTAE) has been at the forefront of providing comprehensive learning opportunities to adults in Hull.

Established in 1972, HTAE has grown to become one of the largest training providers in the area, offering a diverse array of vocational training, apprenticeships and adult education courses designed to enhance employability and support personal development.

Modern facilities

HTAE operates across five state-of-the-art centres strategically located in Hull, each dedicated to specific areas of education and training. These include The Engineering Centre on OPE which focuses on engineering training and development, as well as Craven Park Enterprise and Training Centre on Preston Road, specialising in business and digital skills.

The Park Avenue Adult Education Centre offers community and family learning as well as English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), whilst the Preston Road Adult Education Centre provides vocational training, community and family learning and the Construction Centre on Nursery Grove is dedicated to construction skills and training.

These centres are equipped with modern facilities that provide a conducive environment for learning and skills development, catering to the diverse needs of over 3,000 adult learners annually.

Apprenticeships meet skills needs

Councillor Linda Tock, portfolio holder for Hull Training at the council, added: “More than 450 apprenticeship starts each year, spanning levels 2 to 5 in fields like engineering, construction, business and digital skills.

“This ensures HTAE learners are exceptionally well-prepared to thrive and meet the demands of the job market in our city.”

Literacy and numeracy

HTAE’s community learning initiatives, which reach around 2,500 participants annually, focus on removing barriers to employment and enhancing personal development.

These programs offer a wide range of courses, from basic literacy and numeracy to more specialised skills training, ensuring that individuals of all backgrounds can improve their prospects.
