Leeds-born Ward battles past Blanco

Leeds-born Martin J Ward improved his unbeaten record to 14 fights with victory against tricky and experienced Spaniard Sergio Blanco on the undercard of Luke Campbell and Tommy Coyle’s battle of Hull on Saturday night.

Ward, who left the city when he was a toddler, was handed a unanimous points decision against the versatile Blanco.

A host of Yorkshire-based fighters were in action on the Rumble On The Humber card.

Scarborough’s welterweight prospect George Rhodes Jnr improved to 2-0 with a 39-37 points win over Hull journeyman Paul 
O’Brien. Hull heavyweight Ryan Fuller enjoyed an identical professional record after he out-pointed Hungarian Martin Szatmari.

Connor Seymour beat Duane Green, the Hull middleweight edging the six-round contest on points.

Hull’s Nathon Smith and Driffield’s Danny Little battled out their second draw as they couldn’t be separated yet again.

There was a huge shock for Hull prospect Carl Chadwick, who lost out to 219-fight journeyman Kristian Laight from Nuneaton.

Laight, known as Mr Reliable, edged to only his 10th win against 34-year-old Chadwick over four rounds in their light welterweight contest.
