LEEDS diver Matty Lee insists he has put his Rio disappointment behind him and is ready to come out firing on all cylinders this summer.

Lee was part of the team who headed to Brazil in February looking to qualify Team GB further quota places for this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio.

However, despite his teammates enjoying plenty of success, Lee himself was unable to bag Team GB a second spot in the 10m platform after finishing 30th in the preliminaries.

“It did not go to plan for me in Rio, unfortunately,” said Lee. “To go out and perform in that environment was a good experience but it was just a shame I didn’t do as well as I wanted to.

“It was almost as if it was not me diving. But to be a true champion, you are going to have setbacks and it’s about how you respond to them and identify what to do better. I have got over it now. I have come back really positive and looking to prove I can be better than that.

“It was tough out there.

“Everyone was on a real high. I came in confident and for some reason it didn’t go to plan.”

For Lee, the next target is this week’s Diving Grand Prix in Puerto Rico.

And with the European Aquatics Championships in London also on the horizon in May, Lee knows he could have plenty of chances to prove that Rio was just a blip.

“I need to make sure I maintain my motivation,” said Lee.

“Sometimes as an athlete you can lose that a little bit so I want to stay focused. I want to work on my dives and making them stronger.”

Tickets for the European Aquatics Championships – the biggest event to be held at the London Aquatics Centre since the 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games – from May 9-22 are now available via www.euroaquatics2016.london
