Charlton Athletic v Sheffield Wednesday: Irvine faced with defensive conundrum

League one: ALAN IRVINE insists Sheffield Wednesday can maintain their recent impressive form despite today being forced into a defensive reshuffle by suspension.

The Owls are without Darren Purse and John Otsemobor at Charlton Athletic for a meeting with one of last season's beaten play-off semi-finalists. Irvine said: "It leaves us a bit light at the back but we have to get on with it. We still have five players for four positions so we will try and find the best solution.

"We have obviously looked at things in training this week to make sure it is not going to be a shock to anyone and to satisfy myself about who the back four will be."

Wednesday are looking to make it a hat-trick of wins on the road following the 2-0 triumphs at Notts County and Yeovil Town. Irvine added: "We said at the start of the season that we will have to do well away from home and get good results. So far, we can be happy."
