Beckwithshaw are crowned champions

Istikhar Hussain produced a season-best 8-21 spell as Beckwithshaw crushed Burley and clinched the championship with three matches to go.

Beckwithshaw have been head and shoulders the best team in the league this season, the only blot on their record a Waddilove Cup final defeat by Burley, when they failed to overhaul a meagre 87 total.

But there was no such slip up this time. After Hussain skittled out the visitors for 54, fittingly openers John Inglis and Ross Sedgley, who have contributed more than 1,400 runs between them, saw them home in just 10.4 overs.

Bilton are favourites for the runners-up spot after taking five points off Guiseley with Odge Davey (63no) and Sajad Ali (4-44) the main contributors.

Andrew Foulds (117) hit his second century in three weeks as Steeton raced to 235-7 but big hitting from James Davies, 80no in 59 balls, and Matt O’Grady, 52 in 36 balls, clinched the win that moves Otley up to third.

Brian Leigh (109) and Ollie Hardaker (56) were the top scorers in Collingham’s 228 and even though No 9 Simon Wood put up a rear-guard action with a half- century, Harden were dismissed for 92, a defeat that confirms their relegation.

Follifoot look set to join them after their match at Kirkstall was abandoned but Pool still need two points to be safe after Alex Miller (5-10) and Jason Wright (3-15) dismissed them for 62 in reply to Ben Rhydding’s 145.

Jonathan Hughes hit an undefeated 42 to steer Ilkley past Adel’s 97 total, a victory that sees them take over top spot from Knaresborough who had to settle for a point when their game against Thackley was abandoned.

Rawdon are still in the race after David Gilks smashed sixes off the first two balls of the final over to give them victory at Tong Park Esholt. Gareth Wilkinson (85) and Andrew Bourne (51) starred in Park’s 233-9 but Paul Malkin (60) and Joe Loorham (62) put Rawdon enjoyed a century stand.

The other three games in the division were abandoned, confirming Calverley’s relegation.
