Butt and Akhtar stun leaders Cleckheaton

Pudsey Congs continued their climb from relegation danger with an impressive 48-run win over Division One leaders Cleckheaton.

Babar Butt made 95 not out and Mumtada Akhtar 47 not out in an unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 82 from 51 balls, which took Congs to 252-5.

Cleckheaton fell for 204 with left-arm spinner Glenn Roberts taking 5-37 but remain 24 points clear following Woodlands’ 19-run loss at Hanging Heaton.

David Paynter (74no), Nick Connolly (60), Joe Fraser (47) and Ben Elvidge (41no) dominated the Woodlands attack as a score of 262-3 was posted.

Despite fine knocks from Duncan Snell (84) and Logan Weston (83), Woodlands faltered against Connolly (4-33) and David Stiff (3-50) and finished on 243-7.

Pudsey St Lawrence moved to within two points of Woodlands with a seven-wicket win over bottom team Yeadon.

Former Yeadon player Callum Goldthorp made an unbeaten 56 and steered Saints past their 
157-9 target.

Alex Stead produced his second century in four matches as Lightcliffe recorded a 109-run win over East Bierley.

Stead hammered nine sixes and 10 fours in his 146 and dominated a third-wicket stand of 158 with Josh Wheatley (24). Lightcliffe reached 254-5 and East Bierley were bowled out for 145 as spinner Suleman Khan took 4-28.

Bradford & Bingley’s Chris Thompson made 125 not out off 74 balls and took 5-25 as his side brought Farsley’s winning run to a halt with an 83-run victory.

Thompson smashed 11 sixes and eight fours and was joined in an unbroken sixth-wicket partnership of 187 with Noman Ali (63no) as they made the day’s top score of 308-5.
