Leaders Cleckheaton suffer surprise loss

The Division One title race took another dramatic twist as leaders Cleckheaton were bowled out for just 69 by Bradford & Bingley as they crashed to a 91-run defeat.

Pacemen Matthew Simpson
(5-36) and Jack Hartley (4-26) put the skids under the league leaders to outshine James Lee (4-38) and Iain Wardlaw (3-35) who had helped bowl out Bradford & Bingley for 160. Young opener Charlie Best top scored with 47.

With Pudsey St Lawrence beating Saltaire by 10 wickets – a result that relegates the Roberts Park club – the gap between the top two is just 16 points with champions Woodlands a further seven adrift after their five-wicket win over Hanging Heaton.

Once again the title race is set for a thrilling finish and Woodlands will have a big say in its destiny as their last two games are Pudsey St Lawrence (away) and Cleckheaton (home).

Pudsey St Lawrence skipper Mark Robertshaw hit an unbeaten 53 at Saltaire to take his tally of league runs to 1,002 for the season. He was joined in an unbroken opening stand of 98 by Adam Waite (37) after Saltaire had been dismissed for 96 with Jordan Thompson taking 3-13.

The Woodlands pair of Sam Frankland (3-24) and Sarfraz Ahmed (3-47) ensured that Hanging Heaton didn’t capitalise on an opening stand of 83 by Gary Fellows (40) and Mark Lawson (38) as they plunged to 144 all out. Frankland followed up with 38 as his side eased home.

Like Saltaire, Baildon suffered a 10-wicket defeat which confirmed their relegation.

(4-31) struck. Tabi Bhatti (43no) and Liam Walsh (37no) powered their side to victory.

Andrew Bairstow top scored with a battling 58 as Pudsey Congs were dismissed for 139 against Manningham Mills. Zeeshan Qasim (3-31) and Wasim Qasim (3-33) were the main wicket takers. Mills were 46-2 after 10 overs when rain ruled out any further play.

The match between Lightcliffe and Morley was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
