McGrath earns coaching role at Yorkshire

Former captain Anthony McGrath has been named as a coaching consultant at Yorkshire in a revised structure announced by the county champions.

McGrath has been appointed coaching consultant and will work with players across all age categories from the junior teams through to the senior squad.

For the past year, the former England international has been employed as a player mentor and McGrath will continue to offer his expertise and experience across a number of areas associated with player development.

Director of cricket development Ian Dews will take full responsibility for Second XI cricket in 2015.

Barnsley-born Richard Damms has been promoted to the role of Academy head coach and will be responsible for the coaching and development of the club’s successful Academy squad.

The reshuffle follows the departure of formker second XI coach Richard Dawson to Gloucester.

Yorkshire’s director of cricket Martyn Moxon said: “Following Richard’s (Dawson) departure, I felt it was important to restructure the coaching arm of the club quickly and reward those personnel that have done a fantastic job over recent years.

“I believe that we have one the of best cricket set-ups in the country and it is important for our continued progression as a Club, across all aspects of development, that we have some continuity.

“Ian (Dews), Richard (Damms) and Anthony (McGrath) are all first-class in their respective areas. More importantly, they have the best interests of Yorkshire cricket and have been central to our growth over the past few years.”
