The New Zealand batsman joined the county last month on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Williamson said his opinion that Yorkshire are going places played a big part in his decision to recommit to the club.

“One of the reasons why I wanted to return next season was the fact that we are on the verge of something special,” he said.

“We have all the processes in place to be successful over the next few years. I have only been at the club for a short period of time and already it feels like I have been playing here for ages.

“That is testament to the players for accepting me in the group and making me feel welcome.”

Williamson, 23, has scored 320 runs in four Championship matches at 53.33. Although yet to register his first hundred for the club, he has scored four half-centuries in seven innings.

Martyn Moxon, Yorkshire’s director of cricket, said he was delighted to have the player back next year and expects him to be available for most of the summer.

“It’s great news to have Kane on board for next season,” said Moxon. “We have seen him excel in four-day cricket in the short time he has been with us and I have no doubt that he will be a tremendous asset in all forms of the game.

“For a young man he has already gained a massive amount of experience playing at the highest level against the best teams in the world.

“He should be available for the majority of next season and play his part in our efforts to be successful and competitive in all forms of the game.”

Williamson, who will shortly join up with New Zealand for their tour of Bangladesh and
Sri Lanka, is part of a 14-man squad for Yorkshire’s final game of the season against Surrey at The Oval, which starts today.

The squad includes 17-year-old left-arm spinner Karl Carver, who has impressed at second XI and Academy level.

“It will be a good experience for Karl to be part of our preparations in London,” said Moxon.
