As reported in The Yorkshire Post, Bean has left Headingley in search of regular first-team cricket.

Northants was always a possible destination, with the move announced on Tuesday morning.

“I’m extremely delighted to be joining Northamptonshire,” said Bean, who will remain at the cinch County Ground until at least the end of the 2029 season.

“I can’t wait to get started and I’m looking forward to showing the fans what I can do.

“I can see through the Blast success and County Championship performances that it’s a great group to be part of, and hopefully we can continue that next season.

“It’s an exciting time for me. Working under Darren (Lehmann, head coach) and the rest of the coaching staff, I’m looking forward to developing my game and making a big contribution.”

Lehmann, the greatest overseas player in Yorkshire’s history, said: “It’s great to have Finlay join us at Northamptonshire, and I can’t wait to see what he can do for us in 2027.

“He’s been on our radar for a while, so I’m really pleased to secure him on a long-term deal where he’ll hopefully develop and become a brilliant asset to the team.”

Bean, 24, lost his place in Yorkshire’s County Championship side last season as Will Luxton became Adam Lyth’s regular opening partner.

However, he was ever-present in the One-Day Cup and kept wicket in eight of the club’s nine matches.

His departure leaves Yorkshire without wicketkeeping cover for Jonny Bairstow, with the club’s general manager of cricket, Gavin Hamilton, confirming to The Yorkshire Post on Monday that the club will now look to sign wicketkeeping back-up.

One option, said Hamilton, is to recruit an overseas batsman who also keeps while the club strives to develop up-and-coming talent behind the scenes.
