Steel outmuscles Mirfield’s Cavaliers

ALL-rounder Simon Steel was outstanding as Altofts trounced Mirfield Parish Cavaliers by 138 runs in the Premier Division.

Steel hammered 131 off 89 balls as Altofts piled up 306-6 and then bagged 5-46 to send Mirfield’s reply collapsing from 99-1 to 168 all out. Steel’s score was matched by Birstall’s Indian opener Connor Williams who struck an an unbeaten 131 at Wakefield Thornes.

Williams shared a 160-run opening partnership with Stewart Clifton (43) as Birtstall overhauled Thornes’ 213-6 that included an unbroken seventh stand of 126 between Jordan Anderson (70no) and Tom Froggett (39no).

Townville openers Tim Walton and Jonathan Booth continued their impressive form at Carlton by taking their tally to 506 runs in the last four games.

Booth (98no) and Walton (43) put on 98 to guide Townville go a nine-wicket win after Ritchie Bresnan bagged 4-49 and Jack Hughes (3-34) to topple Carlton for 173 that included 64 by Neil Roberts.

Dan Wood (117) and Gary Fellows (81) shared a first-wicket stand of 171 as champions Wrenthorpe raced to 290-3 before declaring after 46 overs at Batley.

Paynter snapped up 5-49 as Batley were bowled out for 196.

Leaders Wrenthorpe are two points clear of Methley who beat New Farnley by 120 runs. Farnley managed only 181-8, replying to Methley’s 301-4 that featured 97 by Nick Connolly and unbeaten 90 off 60 balls from Vele Dukoski.

Danny McTernan and Joe Smith both hit centuries as Hunslet Nelson climbed to third with a five-wicket win at Northowram Fields.

Jacob Waterson (78) and Thomas Marsden (68) led Northowram’s scoring.

Division One leaders Buttershaw St Paul’s lost by three wickets to Scholes, for whom Neil Kellett struck 67 and Joseph Duffy (65 not out). Richard Atkinson (96no) and Simon Stirling (55) guided St Michael’s to 228-6 against Liversedge. An unbroken 88-run stand between Chris Scott (42no) and Sam Gardiner (38no) steered Hopton Mills to a nine-wicket victory against Wakefield Thornes.

Alan Sumner (53) and Stephen Lane (4-26) helped Moorlands beat East Leeds.
