Tied match cuts the lead for Modernians

Old Modernians' lead in Division One was cut to two points when they were involved in the league's first tie this season against Kirk Deighton.

Chasing Modernians' 197-7, Deighton needed nine runs for victory off the final over and finished on 197-9 when Nick Ryder scored two off the last ball after capitalising on a misfield. Gary Miles (63) led Deighton's scoring.

Second-placed St Chad's closed the gap when Mansoor Hussain struck 10 sixes in a sparkling 129 and bagged 5-73 in a 14-run win against Wetherby whose defeat was hard on Warren Else (103).

Shadwell climbed to third with an eight-wicket win at Walton but former leaders Scarcroft and Barwick in Elmet had their title bids dented.

Spofforth's Nigel Kenyon, James Roberts, Ian Giddins, Darren Kavanagh and Paul Fletcher each claimed two wickets as Scarcroft were routed for 59.

Lee Russell and Mark Mosby both struck half centuries as lowly Great Preston overhauled Barwick's 199-9 that featured 65 by Peter Causon and 59 from Matthew Wood.

Church Fenton and Garforth Parish Church – the top two in Division Two –both lost.

Fenton slipped to their first league defeat against Bilton in Ainsty while Saxton beat Garforth.
