Tribute to ex-Yorkshire CCC chairman who has died aged 91

A former Yorkshire County Cricket Club chairman and Bradford Cricket League president has died aged 91.

Keith Moss’s involvement with Yorkshire CC began in 1991 when he was elected to the general committee as a Bradford district representative and he took over as finance chair the following year.

In 1998, he succeeded Sir Lawrence Byford as club chair, and the highlight of his five years in that post came in 2001 when Yorkshire clinched the County Championship title for the first time in 33 years. Whilst in that role, Yorkshire began the first stages of the redevelopment of Headingley.

But the club’s dire financial situation resulted in the committee system ending ahead of the 2003 season when the board of CEO Colin Graves, chair Robin Smith, director of finance Brian Bouttell and director of cricket Geoff Cope took control.

Mr Moss became chair and president of Bradford League club Pudsey St Lawrence and president of the Bradford League.

He was the only person in the league’s history to be twice awarded the Sir Leonard Hutton Trophy. He was a close friend of Sir Leonard, and organised the annual Sir Leonard Hutton 364 luncheon at Headingley.

In 2010, Mr Moss was awarded the MBE for his services to cricket.
