Yorkshire honour former captain and England pace maestro Gough

Gough’s appointment will be rubber-stamped at the club’s annual meeting at Headingley Carnegie, which starts at 10.00am in the East Stand Long Room.

Gough, 42, played 146 first-class matches for the county, taking 453 wickets at 27.56.

He took 290 wickets in 212 List A games at 23.34 and 16 wickets in 17 Twenty20 appearances at 26.00.

Gough, who captained Yorkshire in 2007 and 2008, captured 229 Test wickets and 235 one-day international wickets, making him one of England’s most successful players of modern times.

Yorkshire will present to members their annual report and accounts, which show a loss of £118,000 for 2012.

As previously reported, the club attribute the shortfall to last year’s bad weather, which saw the loss of around 40 per cent of playing time and the abandonment of the Headingley one-day international, plus the impact of the Olympic Games, which clashed with the Headingley Test and impacted on corporate hospitality sales.

Today’s meeting will also re-elect Geoffrey Boycott as club president for the final year of his two-year term, while Yorkshire’s executive chairman Colin Graves will be appointed a club vice-president.

Derbyshire all-rounder Chesney Hughes has signed a new contract to keep him at the club until September, 2015. The 22-year-old has hit over 1,500 first-class runs for the county at an average of 33, with four centuries, since making his debut in 2010.
