Adam Murray on his Barnsley FC future

ADAM MURRAY has stressed he is happy with whatever decision Barnsley made regarding the permanent successor to Gerhard Struber - but admits he has a desire to become a full-time head coach further down the line in his coaching career.

First-team coach Murray, who has taken charge of the club's last two games on an interim basis - presiding over improved displays in draws against Stoke City and Bristol City, is one of three candidates for the full-time position.

Former Bayern Munich player and strong favourite Valerian Ismael is another and the other is understood to be ex-Brondby and Leipzig head coach Alexander Zorniger.

Murray, who will remain at the club if he does not land the permanent role, said: "For me, my role at the club is a different one.

"I am more of a club appointment than a manager's one. My main aim is to make sure the players are constantly right and if there's a manager in situ, it is to make sure I back that management 100 per cent aligning with the club and vice-versa.

"If the club see my as a candidate for a head coach role now or in the future or they don't, it doesn't really affect my position.

"My position is for the players and staff and give that guidance to them. We will see.

"Whenever you are put in this position, you do day by day. And the players are the best judge if you are any good or not."

On whether he wants to be a head coach/manager again, Murray, who formerly took charge at Mansfield Town, added: "Eventually, I would like to go back into a head coach role.

"I have been there before and done it at a young age. I enjoyed it, but I said at the time when I came out that I needed to take a step back and make myself better.

"I am still in that process and am in no rush to take that step. I have really enjoyed working under the last two managers (at Barnsley) and I think it has improved me individually.

"I have got an age in my own mind where I ideally want to be back in as a head coach. But it is not in the near future. I am only 39 years' old."

Michael Sollbauer, who missed Wednesday's draw at Stoke City as a precaution after being stretchered off last weekend against Bristol City, should be available for tomorrow's game at Millwall.

Murray said: "I am ninety per cent sure. He has got last test he needs to do.

"If we can get available for selection, it will be a nice option to have, although I do think the boys in there on Wednesday night did well and I was happy with the back three/five.

Callum Styles is still sidelined, but is expected to return to training on Sunday with the Reds also having an injury doubt regarding an unnamed player.
