Now they must show they can do it on a cold Tuesday night at Plough Lane.

Wimbledon’s new home, which hosts its first game this evening, ought to be more hospitable than the site 200 yards away which housed the original Dons, but for eighth-placed Doncaster to have a successful season they will have to be as good against the teams below them as those above.

“We’ve been a bit yo-yo so as a group, we’re still trying to find that level of consistency, understanding and detail of work,” said manager Darren Moore.

“This season you’ll find a lot of results are inconsistent. Sometimes it might just be down to the number of games.

“Consistency is one of the big elements any team or individual can have in their sport. That’s something we’re trying to achieve and maintain.”

Moore believes it can be built on the training ground.

“We work in a certain mindset every single day in training and try to get the best out of each other on a day-to-day basis – not weekly,” he stressed.

“Hopefully then it becomes second nature.

“Younger players are seeing things for the first time. The more experienced players have been there and done it and it’s for the younger players to tap into them.”

Moore is looking forward to making a small piece of history this evening.

“It’s a special moment for us to be part of this fixture so we really are looking forward to it,” he added.
