Barnsley FC boss Michael Duff provides updates on Tom Edwards and Josh Benson ahead of League One home double-header with Fleetwood and Bolton

BARNSLEY head coach Michael Duff has confirmed that defender Tom Edwards will miss Thursday's League One home encounter against Fleetwood Town through injury.

The Stoke City loanee has sat out the games against Burton and Accrington due to a knee issue.

Midfielder Josh Benson, who has also missed the last matches with a hamstring injury, could return for the home game with Bolton on January 2.

Duff said: "Tom won't be ready (for Fleetwood). He's not back on the grass yet. He is probably progressing a little bit slower than we hoped. I have not really got a timescale on him.

"We thought it was only going to be a week or ten days, but it does not seem to be progressing as quickly as we'd hoped.

"It is nothing serious, but the physios haven't really been able to get him going because he has still got a little bit of pain in there, so they can't start his protocols for ticking things off to see that the pain goes.

"Josh Benson is getting closer, but Fleetwood will probably be too soon for him, but hopefully he will be in and around for the Bolton game.

"The pleasing thing from Monday was that everyone came through the game unscathed and with the injuries we have had that's the pleasing thing.

Luke Thomas is still restricted to gym work in his road back to fitness but he remains sidelined for at least another three or four weeks, while Slobodan Tedic is doing his rehabilitation work back at Manchester City.

Jordan Helliwell and Will Hondermarck remain out of action alongside long-term injury casualty Conor McCarthy.
